Allen F. Gehl, 76, of Chippewa Falls, died Friday, July 26 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.
Al was born December 30, 1947 in Chippewa Falls, the son of Raymond and Berniece (Swoboda) Gehl. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970.
On June 28, 1969, Allen married Joyce Bowe at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Tilden.
Allen worked in grocery business for 55 years, Allen also owned Al’s Woodward Ave. Liquor Store.
Al was a member of the Knights of Columbus Goldsmith Council #974, the McDonell Booster Club, the Eagles Club and Holy Ghost Church.
Al is survived by his wife, Joyce; two sons, Craig (fiancé, Tracy) of Eugene, Oregon and Mark (fiancé, Cheryl) of Eau Claire; one daughter, Holly (Mark) Buckli of Chippewa Falls; one brother, Ray Gehl of Minnesota; one sister, Mary Mayer of Chippewa Falls; and 8 grandchildren, Rachelle, Robbie, Victoria, Owen, Ella, Brandon, Tyler and Macey.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Raymond Bowe; one sister, Betty Calkins; and brother-in-law, Jim Mayer.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 5 at Holy Ghost Church in Chippewa Falls. The Very Rev. Jesse Burish will be the celebrant of the Memorial Mass. Inurnment will be in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner. Military rites will be conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 4 at the Horan Funeral Home in Chippewa Falls. The Knights of Columbus Goldsmith Council #974 will recite the rosary at 4 p.m. and there will be a Christian vigil service at 5 p.m. both on Sunday at the funeral home.
AFTER SERVICE NOTICE:
A Memorial Mass for Allen F. Gehl was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 5 at Holy Ghost Church in Chippewa Falls.
The Very Rev. Jesse Burish and Rev. Matthew Bowe concelebrated at the Memorial Mass. Military rites were conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council at Buckli’s Barn.
Music during the Mass was given by Judy Brist. Readings were given by Victoria Gehl. Gift bearers were Ella Gehl, Debbie Miller and Tyler and Macey Stahl.
Sunday afternoon the Knights of Columbus Goldsmith Council #974 led by their chaplain, Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Gorman recited the rosary, and the Very Rev. Burish led the family, relatives and friends in a Christian vigil service at the funeral home.
Urn bearers were Chad and Jamey Bowe, Owen and Robbie Gehl.
