Bernard "Bernie" LaVelle Obituary

Bernard J. LaVelle, 61, of Chippewa Falls passed away peacefully at his sister's home, Chippewa Falls in the township of Lafayette on Sunday, February 18, 2024. He was surrounded by his loved ones after a long battle with liver and esophageal cancer and pulmonary fibrosis from Covid.

He was born February 2, 1963, the son of James B. and Nancy L. (Ford) LaVelle in Chippewa Falls. He graduated from Chippewa Falls Senior High School in 1981. After graduating Bernie joined the National Guard. You may remember Bernie in his earlier years working at Red Owl Grocery store and for Crosby Donkey Ball where many laughs and jokes were shared about him “Hauling Ass!” He later worked for Kurth Heating and Cooling and Certified Inc. Over the years Bernie found pleasure in owning and operating his bar- Weekend at Bernie’s, where he truly enjoyed the customers and the friendships he made.

In his younger years, he liked to fish and hunt, participated in bowling leagues and was a member of the Jim Town Rail Runners Snowmobile Club. Bernie continued to enjoy riding snowmobiles, motorcycles and going on adventures throughout his life. On October 11, 2019, Bernie married Terri (Martinek) Moulton in Chippewa Falls. Together they had fun riding their motorcycles for fundraising events and socializing with friends and family and enjoying a cold one…or a few!  Spending time at his trailer in Winterhaven was some of his most cherished memories. He appreciated all his friends he made over the years and had lifelong stories to tell and considered them to be his family. Bernie was a true Wisconsin fan- he loved the Packers and Brewers. You could find him watching the games, shooting pool or “talkin’ smart” at the bar. Those who knew Bernie also knew how much he loved to talk politics! Whether you agreed with him or not, he loved to make his opinion known!

Bernie was a man with a kind heart and a helping hand. He lived his life how he wanted and enjoyed it to the fullest. He will be deeply missed by his family and all those that were his friends.

Bernie is survived by his two children: daughter Chelsey and his son Tanner. Three beautiful granddaughters Aubree, Averie, and Hadlee. His siblings; brother Daniel (Julie) LaVelle and sister Jimette Kinderman; seven nieces and nephews; Diana (Nathan) Kalepp, Dena (Brian) Behm, Jamie LaVelle, Mitchell LaVelle (Maggie Burgess), Justin (Andrea Palas) LaVelle, Tyler Kinderman (Kim Jablowski), and Tory Kinderman and many great nieces and nephews. Bernie is also survived by his late wife Terri’s family, step-son Zach Moulton, and step-granddaughter Amelia Volrath; mother and father-in-law Diane and Bruce Heuer, her siblings, Kevin Martinek, Angela and Ralph Vaught, Lee Martinek, Randy and Stephanie Martinek and their families. Last but not least, his beloved cat Penny.

Bernie is preceded in death by his loving wife Terri (Jan. 3, 2022), his parents; brother-in-law Scott Kinderman, niece Jessica Kinderman; and many aunts and uncles, and his furry felines, Shasta and Callie.
