Gloria Elmer, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 with her family by her side at Dove Healthcare in Bloomer.
Gloria Marie Elmer (Desrosier), was born on April 24, 1936 in Russia Township, MN. to Alfred and Doris (Perreault) Desrosier.
After Gloria graduated in 1954 she moved to Minneapolis for work. In the fall of 1954, she met her lifelong partner, Harold Elmer. Harold and Gloria were married on June 18, 1955 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Minneapolis, MN.
After they married, they lived in Washington, DC, Minneapolis and Crookston, MN before finally settling down in Chippewa Falls. During this time, they were blessed with seven children.
Gloria worked at St Joseph's Hospital as a housekeeper. She retired in March 1988 due to rheumatoid arthritis, but that did not stop her from pursuing her passions. She enjoyed volunteering at St. Charles Parish as a Eucharist Minister and helping to set up for weddings and funerals. She also helped the First Communion students prepare the bread used for their First Holy Communion.
Even though she was limited by her arthritis, Gloria always loved working with her hands. She was a talented seamstress. Over the years, she made countless quilts, costumes, embroidered towels, doll clothes, and many other items. Almost all of these items were passed on as gifts to family and friends, where they will be treasured for years to come.
She is survived by her seven children, one son, John of La Crosse, and six daughters, Ronnie Peterson (Laurie) of Prescott Valley, AZ, Barb Schmid (Donald) of Bismarck, ND, Carol Green (Bob) of Apache Junction, AZ, Diana Crook (Kurt) of Oxford, WI, Annette Bates (Rod) and Mary Berg (Scot) of Chippewa Falls.
In addition to her two brothers and eight sisters, Gloria’s life was enriched by the love of her 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Harold of 48 years, her parents, and her brother, Linus.
