The family of Judy Mazur sadly and solemnly announces her passing on December 4, 2024, at Marshfield Medical Center in Weston, Wisconsin.

Judith Norene Froberg was born January 14, 1937, to Forrest and Lorna (nee Gillette) Froberg in Rock Island, Illinois. Eventually the Froberg family settled in Chippewa Falls when Judy was in 3rd grade. She graduated as a salutatorian from Chippewa Falls High School in 1954 and very much enjoyed attending reunions and local luncheons with her classmates.

Judy met the love of her life, Conrad Mazur, while attending the University of Wisconsin in Madison as a freshman. They were married in 1956 and moved to Milwaukee afterwards, where daughter Cindi was born. In 1958, they moved to Chippewa Falls. Making a home on Lake Wissota, Mike, Steve, Doug, and Greg were born, and Conrad started his career with Amoco Foam Products. Amoco took Judy and her family to Mundelein, Ill., White Bear Lake, Mn., and finally to Atlanta, Ga.

As the kids got older, Judy yearned for employment. She taught school in Minnesota, and after getting situated in Georgia, she took an H&R Block class to learn taxes. She did so well that they offered her a job right afterwards and was soon managing an H&R Block office. When that office flourished, she was promoted to manage an H&R Block Executive Tax office. During this time in her life, she also loved golfing, tennis, playing cards, and attending the many high school and college athletic games that her sons participated in. Judy really loved her Georgia life, but through many discussions about post- retirement, she and Connie relocated to Jim Falls in 1999. Her work ethic continued with non-profits, as Judy volunteered with St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Cook-Rutledge Mansion and was a member of the Jim Falls Lions, Chippewa Falls Elks and the Chippewa Falls chapter of P.E.O.

Part of Connie and Judy’s motivation to return to the area involved the purchase of a beautiful property on the Chippewa River. After remodeling the cabin on the property, it became a staple for Camp Froberg, the annual family get together started by her mother Lorna in 1971 and continuing to this day. It also warmed her heart that some of her children and grandchildren were able to relocate locally after living in all corners of the country. Many visitors came and went to their beautiful home during the summer, and often in the winter, Judy and Connie would pack up the 5th wheel and travel to Florida – especially when the Badgers had a bowl game there. Other times they went to Port Lavaca, Texas, where Judy really enjoyed the warm sunshine and vast ocean. Some of her heart was always in Hawaii, as vacationing on the big island left a treasure of fond memories. She wanted so much to return there again!

Judy was as nice a person as you would ever meet, with never a bad word spoken of anyone. She was the ultimate hostess and went out of her way to make guests feel welcome with homecooked meals and comfortable beds. She paved the way for several “adopted” sons – friends of her own sons whose homes were far away, and some whose homes were close by. Nieces, nephews, and grandchildren enjoyed extended stays under Connie and Judy’s roof.

She was also very sociable, and when there wasn’t a party happening soon, she would get to work on planning one. Her best times were with family and friends, and she had an abundance of both. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage, always quick with the Swedish skål toast at happy hour, complete with eye contact but no clicking of the glass! Judy was a woman of strong faith as well, belonging to St. Agnes circle at Sacred Heart Church in Jim Falls. When her mobility was challenged in recent years, she regularly tuned in to Sunday mass on TV.

Judy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 68 years, Conrad, who will miss her to no end. She is also by her sons Michael (Kim) of Jim Falls, Steven (Shoba) of Great Falls, Va., Douglas, and Gregory (Stacey), both of Jim Falls. She is also survived by son-in-law Charles Butler, sister Sara (George) Abendroth, 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and Conrad’s wonderful extended family.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Forrest and Lorna Froberg; her brother, Forrest “Frosty” Froberg; her daughter, Cynthia Butler; and her granddaughters, Jessica and Bethany Mazur.

The family would like to thank the caring and supportive staff of the Marshfield Clinics in Eau Claire and Weston, who took great care of Judy in her time of need. The Mazur family simply cannot imagine our lives without her warm and generous presence, but she is in our hearts forever!

Visitation will be held from 4pm – 7pm on Monday, December 9, and on Tuesday, December 10 from 9am to 10am, at the Horan Funeral Home in Chippewa Falls, with a procession then leading to Sacred Heart Church in Jim Falls. Rev. Eric Linzmaier will be celebrant of the funeral Mass at 11am.  Interment will follow in Copp Cemetery in the town of Anson, with a luncheon served afterwards at Sacred Heart.

AFTER SERVICE NOTICE:

Funeral services for Judith N. Mazur were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 10 at Sacred Heart Church in Jim Falls.

Rev. Eric Linzmaier was celebrant of the funeral Mass assisted by Mass server, Peggy Lazarz. Interment was in Copp Cemetery in the town of Anson.

Music during the Mass was provided by Alex Mazur and Rick Rubenzer.

Casket bearers were Greg, Lucas, Mike and Steve Mazur, Goff and Matt Pope.
