Noel Ann Herzog Obituary
Noel Ann Herzog passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 15, 2025, at her home in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. She was 83.
Noel was born on December 21, 1941, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In her youth, Noel’s family lived in various locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin, eventually settling in the Twin Cities area where Noel graduated from Orono High School in 1958. In 1962, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of South Dakota, where she met her future husband, Bernard Herzog. She and Bernie fell in love at first sight, and they married on September 1, 1962, in Wayzata, Minnesota.
As the wife of a surgeon, Noel lived in various cities across the United States while her husband finished his medical training, giving birth to her son Phil in Waukegan, Illinois; her daughter Ellen in Madison, Wisconsin; her son Ted in Milbank, South Dakota; and her son Dan in Marshall, Minnesota. She and Bernie also lived in Yankton, South Dakota, where Bernie completed his medical training. In 1973, Noel and Bernie moved to Marshall, Minnesota, where Noel played the flute in the Southwest Minnesota State University orchestra, gave flute lessons to local students, was an avid and skilled gardener, and ran a bookstore with her brother Mark. Noel boarded her horses at a friend’s farm in Marshall and developed her skills as an English dressage rider and carriage driver. In 1985, Noel and Bernie moved to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and built a house on Lake Wissota. Noel played the viola in the Chippewa Valley Symphony in Eau Claire and participated in many horseshows as an active member of the Western Wisconsin Dressage Association.
Noel and Bernie moved to the Twin Cities area in 2022, but they treasured their friendships in Chippewa Falls and retained many fond memories of their charmed life on Lake Wissota.
Noel was known for her devotion to her family, her nurturing and caring personality and great pride she took in her family’s accomplishments.
Survivors include her husband Bernie of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, four children, Philip of Shoreview, Minnesota, Ellen (David Kuhny) of Longmont, Colorado, Theodore (Amanda Tibbs) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Daniel (Melissa) of Chaska, Minnesota; one sister, Nora Moss (Bruce) of Spooner, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Kwame Peter Herzog, Kojo Herzog, Kwame Matthew Herzog, Adam Tibbs, Joel Tibbs, Owen Herzog, Ava Herzog, and Anika Herzog; one great-granddaughter Skylar Herzog and several cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Lucille Stewart, and her brother, Mark Stewart.
The family is immensely grateful to the staff at Maranatha Care Center in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, for the professional, compassionate care that Noel received in her final days.
Noel was buried in a private ceremony at Hope Cemetery in Chippewa Falls on February 27, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held at Lake Wissota Golf & Events, 16108 97th Avenue, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729 at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
