Richard J. Thomas, 88, of Chippewa Falls, died Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the Chippewa Manor Nursing Home in Chippewa Falls, under the care of St. Croix Hospice after a short battle with cancer.

                Richard was born July 23, 1937 in Chippewa Falls, the son of Othar and Lucille (Zandi) Thomas. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy and worked for Amoco/Pactiv for many years.

                On June 8, 1979, Richard married Susan (Ouimet) Mewhorter in Stillwater, MN. He was a member of the Chippewa Valley ATV Club, and Happy Trails Dog Park.

                Richard is survived by three daughters, Tammy Ellis of Tuscan, AZ, Debora (Gene) Flick of Chippewa Falls and Lori Ebner of Oak Harbor, Wash.; one son, Wayne (Amy) Mewhorter of Chippewa Falls; nephew, James Thomas of Chippewa Falls; 7 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

                Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Sue on April 15, 2024; his parents; and one brother, Ronald Thomas.

                Funeral services will be held at Noon Wednesday, December 10 at the Horan Funeral Home in Chippewa Falls. Chaplain Michelle Earls of St. Croix Hospice will be officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Chippewa Falls. Military rites will be conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.

                Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services Noon Wednesday, December 10 at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Richard J. Thomas were held at Noon Wednesday, December 10 at the Horan Funeral Home.

                Chaplain Michelle Earls officiated at the services and at the prayers of interment in Forest Hill Cemetery in Chippewa Falls. Military rites were conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.

                Casket bearers were Gene Flick, Nate and Wayne Mewhorter, Matt Seeger, Jon Stabenow and Charles Wagener.
