Russell Lamont Butterfield Obituary

Russell Lamont Butterfield, 80, of Chippewa Falls, town of Tilden, died Saturday, July 11th, 2026 at his residence.

Russ was born on January 29, 1946 to Russell and Marjorie (Campbell) Butterfield.

Russ married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Sandy Boos. They had three daughters; Lori, Wendy, and Brenda. He lovingly raised his family out on Tilden Pond.  Russ had many “titles” and responsibilities over those years, but his most treasured title is, and always will be, Dad.

Dad was full of life and loved being outdoors. In his younger years, Dad did a lot of hunting and fishing with family and friends. But since retirement, life has slowed down. Lately, after his ritual morning coffee with his good friends, Gary and Don, you could find him working on various projects in his yard. You always knew which project he was working on by the chair next to it so he could rest.

Family meant the world to Dad. We loved having family bonfires around the beautiful patio he built. We would roast marshmallows and share stories from the past. Over the years, Dad enthusiastically cheered on sporting events his grandchildren and great grandchildren participated in. You would often hear him offer advice for the next game.

Dad also loved to be creative. He painted ceramics, signs, and some really neat chess sets. Teaching his grandkids how to play chess was the highlight of his day. Dad was always thinking about what he could create, build, or paint next.

Dad enjoyed taking Mom and Ivy, his furry friend, out for a ride in his convertible. You would often see them driving through Irvine Park and stopping for ice cream. In the quiet moments and winter months, Dad enjoyed listening to music, reading all genres of books, and painting.

Dad is survived by his loving wife, Sandy, his loyal dog, Ivy, his three daughters, Lori (Dean) Trowbridge, Wendy (Steve) Scott, and Brenda Hagen, 11 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Dad also leaves behind his siblings, Deb Mai, Fleet (Jean) Butterfield, Anne (Tom) Madison, and Renee (Mike) Thompson.  Dad’s entire family will miss him dearly.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, his brother-in-law, and his great grandson.

An Irish Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 8th from 1 pm to 4 pm at Horizons Bar & Grill in Tilden.  Please join us to toast Dad, share stories about him and celebrate his legacy.

In lieu of flowers, please donate a memorial to help the family with final expenses.
