Scott M. Lightner, 50, of Chippewa Falls, village of Lake Hallie, died Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at Marshfield Medical Center in Eau Claire after a courageous battle of 2 ½ years with kidney cancer.

Scott was born October 18, 1975 in Chippewa Falls, the son of Kathleen Swoboda and David Kirkham. He worked at Fleet Farm Distribution Center in Chippewa Falls operating a forklift.

On May 26, 2023, Scott was happily married Chelsea Cunningham in Chippewa Falls.

Scott was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, and camping. He went on many road trips with his family and always looked forward to attending all his daughter’s softball tournaments. Hanging out with friends, playing volleyball and darts were some of his favorite pastimes. He was a true diehard Cubs fan. Scott had the biggest heart; he was always more concerned about how everyone else was doing before himself, even at the very end of his life. He was a wonderful listener and so kind.

Scott is survived by his loving wife, Chelsea; one daughter, Colbi Jevne of Eau Claire; his parents, David and Kathleen Kirkham of Chippewa Falls; his grandparents, Dale and Delores Fredrickson of Stanley; one nephew, Cooper of Fall Creek; in-laws, Nancy and Perry Cunningham of Chippewa Falls, Margaret Cunningham of Chippewa Falls and Aaron, Stephanie and Ava Cunningham of Rochester, MN..

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Al “Pa” and Lyn Swoboda of Chippewa Falls.

Scott’s lasting message was “I hope everyone I know, and love are happy and safe.”

There will be a Celebration of Life from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 17 at Schuebels Frog Hop with a short conclusion and toast to follow at 3 p.m.
