Sylvia Ann Nelson (Wucherpfennig), of Chippewa Falls, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023. She was surrounded by loving family in her final days. Throughout her 93 years of life, Sylvia was a beacon of love, warmth, and kindness. Her passing has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all who knew her. Sylvia cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, creating treasured memories that will forever be held close to their hearts.
Sylvia was born February 23, 1930, in Chippewa Falls, the daughter of Richard and Magdalena (Fanetti) Wucherpfenning.
Sylvia “Silk” was a free spirit, living a life rich in experiences and adventures. She left home at the age of 17, with her travels eventually leading her to Bremerton, Washington, where she met the love of her life, Robert Nelson. Together, they embraced the Navy life, spending time in Hawaii, Norfolk, and Maryland before settling down in Chippewa Falls with their six children.
Sylvia dedicated her life to nurturing her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, providing them with a safe haven of love and wisdom. Her home was always open, and her heart always welcoming. Sylvia's love was the glue that held her family together, and her legacy of love and care will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her sharp wit and great sense of humor was infectious and often filled the room with laughter. Sylvia made each of her grandchildren feel like the most important person in the world. She would listen intently to stories, offer sage advice, and wrap them in her warm embrace when they needed it most.
Sylvia had many talents that she passed to the family. Her kitchen was a place of magic, where the scent of freshly baked cookies, cakes and apple pies would fill the air. She made the best spaghetti (with a little sugar) and macaroni and cheese (with a lot of love). She often let the grandkids help prepare delicious meals. Sylvia was also a skilled seamstress, especially when it came to making Halloween outfits and doll dresses.
As we reflect on her life, we remember a woman of immense grace, strength, and resilience. She faced adversity with unwavering courage and a smile that could light up the darkest of days. Sylvia was instrumental in creating the Bereaved Parents group and providing solace and support for those dealing with loss. She was a tireless advocate for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
Sylvia is survived by her loving family. Children: Vicki Nelson, Barry Nelson, Teri Ouimette, Pam (Tom) Weingart and Jody Nelson; Grandchildren: Hilary (Patrick) Hauser, Melisa Neal, Taylor Nelson, Rose Ouimette, Bailey (Nathan Kramer) Weingart and Madie Weingart; Great-grandchildren: Landon Neal, Paisley and Remey Weingart and Weston Hauser; brother, Chet (Judy) Wucherpfennig; special niece, Tamara and son, Ethan, along with numerous family and friends.
